Welcome

Welcome to Project 140. This site is dedicated to my car stereo projects past and present. I have spent many hours working on car stereos in my free time and thought it would be a good time to create a place where I could display my collections of installations. It just so happens I also know how to create web pages. First I would like to explain the meaning of "Project 140". I have been installing stereos since I was 16. The first time I heard a car with a loud stereo was when I was 15. I couldn't stand it. The car was an '87 Ford Escort hatchback with 4 10" subs and about 600 watts of power. I thought, I'll never put a system in my car. A year later I got my license and a car. The first thing I did was by a CD player and a set of 6x9's. Soon after I bought my first set of Subs and a 200 watt amp. Through the years I upgraded and replaced vehicles and components. Now I compete at a local Audio store. This season I have a new car with new enclosures and all of my 3 year old equipment. I have only been to one competition this year but I maxed out at 138.6 decibals. Not bad once you see my specs. So the goal has become to reach 140 decibals. It doesn't sound like such a lofty goal, but if you know anything about car audio, you'll understand that it takes quite a bit to increase that much. I hope to reach my goal by the end of summer 2006. This site will chronicle my progression and perfomance through out the next few months. Check back for more details about my stereo and other ongoing projects.

Operation "Green Steel"

One of my up coming projects is quite a large one. A friend of mine has the crazy idea to put a computer in his car. You may think, why? I thought the same thing until he told me what it was going to do. My friend owns a 2002 Ford ZX2. Like me, he is a music buff; mostly heavy metal. The installation will include a well designed sound quality driven stereo system. The stereo won't be powered by a traditional head unit. Instead, it will be fed a signal from a computer. The computer will be connected to a touch screen that will be mounted in the dash. This will control all of the functions of the system. The computer will be capable of playing mp3's and probably other digital formats as well as have GPS capabilities. For more information check out Operation "Green Steel" under the current projects page. I hope to keep an up dated log as to our progression through the project.

About me

I am an Information Systems Specialist. I graduated from Kent State University in 2006 with a Bachelor's and Associate's degree in Computer Technology. I have worked on stereos since I was 16. It has been a hobby of mine for years. In my free time I have worked on many projects for myself and others such as a Personal Video Recorder (PVR), web site design, and of course, car stereos. My meticulous nature has driven me to learn as much as I can about everything I do. This includes computers and car stereos.
